I have been desperately looking for Royal Blood locally but have not found any. I did come across BMW mineral brake fluid. The 16 oz container looks just like the one Magura sells. I looked in the back and it is supplied by Magura Co. I used this on my Marta's. Is this mineral oil safe?

Hi,
Where are you based?
If you struggle to buy Blood from your dealer you could always contact Magura UK (01530 414142)

Hi,
Magura does produce the brakes for BMW (and KTM, Ducatti and more, but BMW has got a dedicated assembly hall in the Magura factory) but as far as I know, motorcycles cannot get away with mineral oil for braking. They still use DOT, even the Magura ones. The clutch may work with mineral oil though. Chances are though that they still work with the older Magura Blood which was fine for the rim brakes, but may not be as good with the higher temperatures of the disc brakes. Use the dealer locator to find a Magura dealer in your area. They should be able to sell you the oil. Alternatively you may choose to order a bottle by mailorder.
Cheers,
Vinay

Thanks for the quick responses. Im in the US. It's the clutch oil so far it has worked just fine. Just curious what would be the disadvantages with the higher temps? Would I experience brake fade? I was concerned with the seals but I guess that should be ok?
thanks in advance.

Hi Tone,
Seals will remain ok with both kinds of Magura blood - but won't last long with DOT brake fluid.
Royal (blue) blood will absorb more heat than older (green) oil before boiling - which would give you a spongy feel at the lever and poor braking performances.
Blue blood is also a little more fluid, this improves the lever touch.
