GS1200 Adv.
There are various tricks and adjustments that can be done on the R1200GS which aren't well documented. Here's a list of a few of them.

Turning the Headlights OFF
The procedure is as follows:
  1. Turn the ignition on and allow the startup-check cycle to complete. The headlights will be off (this is normal).
  2. Hold turn-signal cancel switch for 4-5 secs.
  3. Hold right turn-signal switch for 4-5 secs.
  4. Start engine.
  5. Lights should remain OFF.
This will reset next time you switch off the ignition. The headlights will be off, but the running lights and tail light will remain on.
Note 1: Nikos Skarentzos wrote to say that you can use this trick to turn the lights off while you're riding, that is, after you've started the engine. You still have to stop and turn the engine off before you can get the lights back on, however.

Note 2: Tim Jones wrote to say that on his '07 Adv model (without servo brakes) just hitting the high beam or passing switch will turn on the low beam again. This apparently does not work on '05 and '06 models. Tim put a video clip showing this on

Turning ON the Parking Lights
The procedure is as follows:
  1. Turn off the ignition.
  2. Within about 60 seconds (as long as the red warning light on the left handgrip switch housing is on), push either turn-signal switch.
  3. The "parking lights" will remain on until you restart the ignition. On USA-spec bikes, the parking lights consist of the tail light and the very small light in the bottom of the headlight assembly. The red warning light on the left handgrip will also remain ON.
  4. WARNING: Prolonged use of the parking lights will drain the battery.

Turning OFF the Parking Lights
The procedure is as follows:
  1. Turn the ignition on, then off. Or just start up the bike and ride away...

Progamming the BMW Security System
First, put the system in PROGRAMMING mode using the remote:

StepActionConfirmation
1Deactivate alarm function
2Turn ignition on
3Press ribbed button 3 timesone beep
4Switch OFF ignition within 10 sec.
5Press smooth button 3 timesone beep
6Switch ignition ON within 10 sec.3 beeps
The PROGRAMMING function is now active. The number of flashing signals on the remote's LED indicates the active programming step. Pressing the ribbed button is confirmed by an alarm tone. Pressing the smooth button is confirmed by an acknowledgment tone.

Following the last step, the LED stops flashing and four acknowledgment tones sound.

StepSettingRibbed buttonSmooth button
1Confirmation beeping following arming/disarmingONOFF
2(not in use)Push either button
3Alarm tone typeswellingintermittent
4Automatic arming of alarm function with ignition offONOFF
The system exits programming mode automatically 30 seconds after the last button was pressed. You can end programming mode immediately by switching off the ignition.

Successful programming is confirmed by the acknowledgment tone sounding 4 times. If programming is cancelled, the data will not be saved.

If you want to register an additional remote control unit, or replace a lost remote control unit, then you must always register all remote control units with the anti-theft alarm. You can register a maximum of four remote control units.

Adjusting the Gearshift Lever
  1. Undo the plastic cover above and to the left of the gear selector for access for the rest of the job. This looks to be the starter motor cover. There is only one bolt to undo on the right and there are plastic lugs on the left hand side so once the bolt is out slide the cover to the right to disconnect the lugs then manouvre out.
  2. The gear linkage consists of a threaded bar connecting the gear selector shaft to that of the gearbox. There are locknuts top and bottom. Undo both locknuts and move one up and the other down until they meet. Now lock them together. This operation will probably require a bit of WD40 to ease.
  3. Now using a spanner on the locked nuts turn the whole threaded bar anti-clockwise so it winds upwards. Eventually it will wind off the bottom lug and the gear selector will drop.
  4. Now the adjustment is done, so either wind more of the bar into top lug to raise the position of the selector or wind the bar out of the top lug if you want to drop the selector.
  5. Now raise the selector and wind the bar back onto the bottom lug. Make sure there are enough threads in the bottom lug to secure. At this point you should check the position of the selector by sitting on the bike with your normal biking boots on. Also check that the selector does not foul the sidestand movement.
  6. If the correct position is found, wind the locknuts back up to each lug and lock, then replace the starter motor cover making sure not to pinch any of the drain lines that run down the back of the cover.
Δεν τα εχω δοκιμασει !!!! αλλα δειχνουν ενδιαφερον !!!
