Zũmo firmware revisions & downloads
The Zũmo's firmware is the internal operating software your unit is running on.
To update your unit Software use the Webupdater to automatically keep your operating software current. Up to version 3.50 you can download one of the EXE files listed here and run that.
By using the Webupdater you can get additional download options likeBluetooth & other software revisions
Note that WebUpdater will fail with an obscure message if Internet Explorer is set to "Work Offline". If you have a problem, check in IE's File menu that there is no check mark next to "Work Offline". (If you change this IE setting you must re-start WebUpdater.)
After version 3.50 Garmin wants us to use WebUpdater so badly, they have hidden the other option. WebUpdater requires a reliable and fast internet connection, as well as a Windows PC running XP or later. If you can't or don't want to use it, there is an alternative method:
Open the
software update page. View the "page source", i.e. the raw html code. In Firefox press Ctrl-U, in IE 6 click View > Source.
Right at the top of the source page Garmin have put the link to the current version of the firmware update file and some instructions on how to use this. Download this file or, if you want to downgrade, try changing the file name to the version you want before downloading it.
You can now either follow the instructions, which still involve WebUpdater, or:
- Connect your Zumo to a computer.
- Check that you have a backup of your Zumo, especially all tracks, waypoints and routes you want to keep.
- Copy the file you have downloaded into the Garmin folder on the Zumo.
- Rename the file to GUPDATE.GCD
- Disconnect the Zumo and let it restart completely. On the startup screen it should show that it is updating software.
- Perform a reset.
- Re-configure anything that has been reset, like data fields, routing preferences, ...
- Re-load your waypoints and routes.
After installing the current latest NT maps (Europe & USA 2008 versions) the latest firmware is automatically installed as well. Unfortunately, so are some bugs related to these firmware versions. On this page you can find older versions to roll back if needed.
You are advised to have a look at the
BUGS & issues list first before up- or downgrading your firmware
If you want to go back to an older firmware version, download and install it from this list. It is advised to back up any routes / waypoints / tracks you have in the Zũmo before changing your firmware.
Generally speaking it is best to have the latest firmware installed on your unit, since new functions are added and old bugs are repaired.
Be aware that
buying a new Zũmo does not guarantee you to have the latest firmware version!
If you have installed a higher version, all the updates in lower numbered versions are installed as well, so you only need to run the highest version you want.
=You can check current your version with tapping the following sequence:
wrench / system / aboutWarning: Do not load firmware 3.90 or lower on zumo660 models which have firmware 4.00 preloaded by Garmin from factory. Because of the new TFT screens this could lead to a broken zumo 660.Change History
As a (sad) rule Garmin changes much more in their firmware updates then listed below, without notice. I try to list these as well.
